ah few eats: Wonton Mein

Okay, the second edition of "ah few eats" took ah few down deep, past enemy lines (past Steeles!) to the depths of Scarberia wherein lies a hidden gem where only those in the know feast on its goodness. I did this all for you, my faithful readers (mostly to stuff my face though)... apologies to those who actually live in Scarborough (its got a wonderful name! Are you going to Scarborough Fair? Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme)

You knowwww a place is good when they have a Buddhist prayer chant playing in a non-stop loop, talk about ambiance. Another characteristic that foreshadows positively the restaurant's food quality is it doesn't have an English name, unless "Chicken and Noodles" (Location: Glen Watford Drive and Sheppard Avenue East) counts as a name these days... This ain't the crappy Wonton Noodles that you get from places like Manchu Wok or Spring Rolls (Neither do I eat at those places, nor do I know if they actually serve Wonton noodles. I just assume they do, and do it horribly). Anyways, I'll let the pictures speak for themselves:

The Menu: Inconspicuous, but packed full of Delish!

Your own teapot, another sign of greatness. No waiting for some waitress to fill your cup!

What we all came here for... *Hallelujah*

Noodles have near-perfect texture (closest to HK standards as you can get) and the soup base? One word: Heavenly

Notice how the wonton is not crammed with mushroom, cheap pork meat or any other filler? This is how wonton mein should be; never settle for less! In fact, never settle: period!

Plain Beef Tendon - its name is misleading as its actually quite flavourful and chewing on it brings me back to the bliss of early childhood and soothers (are they called binkies now?) Okay that may have been a bit of a hyperbole but then again, its one of my favourite 'cheap' dishes out there.

Another sign of greatness? Old chinese men eating without their womenfolk!

If you find yourself in the area, why not stop in and give it a try? Come on people! Sure you may question my legitimacy as I am not Chinese but I do have indirect roots in Hong Kong... kinda. Also, I am quite the foodie and food is one of the hobbies that is nearest and dearest to my heart (and gut). I go out of my way to eat here, its as close to Hong Kong you can get here in Toronto. Ahfew eats Wonton mein: Complete!

Next edition of ah few eats: American!

This entry is dedicated to subwaybusker: she know why :) The next time I go, I'll have to take her because I need her fob writing skills, I can't write down my own order (and therefore eat) without her!
