Tip-toeing towards my goal

Most mentally sane people have fairly typical life goals, like eliminating all traces of fat from their bodies, gaining a few inches where it really matters (height), and for those who want to live on the wild side, attaining a 4.0 GPA at the University of Toronto. My strive for self-improvement however, is much more random:

I want to be able to touch my toes...

Of course I can touch my toes, I'm not that big of a freak. What I mean exactly is having the ability to touch my toes without bending my knees. People have no idea how horrible I am at flexibility... especially anything to do with my spine. Apparently I was told by my family doctor that my spine is too straight (ha!) and rigid (not rigid as in 'rigid spine syndrome', which is a type of muscular dystrophy) after he watched me struggle (flail and err... tremble) while trying to get my hands to reach past my knees...

Sadly my stiff spine does not mean that I have model posture. My posture is quasimodo-esque at times, and I blame the short people in my life for it (and my Dad taking me to an unlicenced chiropractor as a child). Always adjusting myself unconsciously so I don't have people seeing nothing of my face past my chin or knowing the intimate details of the contents of my nostrils.

I digress... while some people dream to look like Angelina Jolie (or yummy
Freja Beha) and others work at becoming engineers, lawyers, and doctors I am going to start small by working on my back. My goal for this year is to (by this time next year) stretch downwards and be able to freely touch my toes without any bend(age) coming from my knees. It's going to be hard, my doctor has told me that much, but I don't want to think it impossible.

I might fail (most likely will) but I need more realistic/attainable goals in life because I'm a dreamer/over-achiever more often than not. I am all too guilty of setting too many unreasonable goals in my life which leads too often to disappointment for me. I am trying to change that now, with this declaration. Too many times have I achieved goals I set for myself, only to have them stripped from me because of reasons I have no control over. Living a simpler life is something I need to embrace, because the more I think about it, the more I realize I'll be so much more content with life.

Some aim for the stars with their goals, but I'm just happy reaching for my toes.

P.S. With the publishing of this post I've just fulfilled another goal! I promised to make shorter entries and this is my shortests yet! Good job Matt! *pats self on back*... or should I say spine?

  1. I thought blogger gave the option to comment as username/URL. Anyways, don't be down, you know you have a friend right beside you who is far worst off than you.

  4. I wish I could touch my toes too... but hey, you should know that having small attainable goals is a very good thing.

I personally want to ummm... heh, Matt you know what my goal is right now. To be able to see that evil stare again outside of my memories of course. =)

  11. it's good to be able to have small goals. your goal is easy to get at, just slowly work at it and hopefully by the time I come back to T.O. you would have accomplished it :D
